Why do I need to exfoliate? by Bare Waxing Centre

To scrub or not to scrub that is the question. Have you ever heard the saying “soft as a baby’s butt”? Well the saying comes from the fact that baby’s skin is seriously soft. Why? Because babies replace their skin cells every 5 days. As we grow older however this skin cell turnover slows down A LOT.

This is why we need to exfoliate.

What is exfoliating?

Exfoliation is the mechanical or chemical removal of dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. Mechanical exfoliators such as a sugar scrub or an exfoliating brush work by sloughing off the dead skin cells revealing the smooth healthy skin beneath.

Chemical exfoliants such as glycolic acid or enzymes break down the dead skin cells allowing them to be easily shed.

A few big benefits you get from exfoliating regularly are;

  • Smoother skin

  • A more even skin tone

  • Allows for better absorption of serums, moisturizers, and antioxidants
